Regal The Balance of Power series Book 3 eBook Brian Rathbone
A shift in focus makes this book a definite middle book. Instead of epic clashes of good vs evil, now you have man vs nature. How are the cast going to survive in the harsh environment they find themselves in. The second generation of heroes continue to develop, though there is quite a bit of character building along with the new areas of the world to see.The story actually is a three-way narrative, which may prove a bit hard to keep straight. At times, because of how smoothly the narrative flowed, I actually had to back track to remember who (and) where I was in space. Something unusual for me.
I'm not sure if it's because I was on a Godsland reading binge, or because the story was designed this way, but this book draws threads from all of the previous books to paint a grim picture for the future. However, the technical side of the writing provides enough strength to carry this one forward, and makes it a wonderful read, none the less.

Regal The Balance of Power series Book 3 eBook Brian Rathbone Reviews
Author had an idea for a cool little series but really had to many similarities with other book series. The whole concept of the Herald got lost with characters wandering in and out getting lost. The ending just was awful. Not as bad as the Eragon ending, but still dreadful. Go back and re-edit the series. Make the central story be the story and resolve the loose ends. It might be really good if you do.
I have read all.of the books of this series and would rate this series overall as a 3 to 4. I really enjoyed the plotline and the characters, but the author seemed to rush through many aspect of this story. Perhaps I am just used to the huge volumes of fantasy most authors write these days, but this series felt a little short and choppy.
Criticism aside, I read this series without a break over about 6 days and I did have fun with it. Mr. Rathbone should keep writing, because I think he will only improve with each book, and I liked his characters quite a bit!
Great series if you like dragons/fantasy and strong character development along with a battle of good versus evil. If you like the Malazan Book of the Fallen series, you are likely to enjoy this. These books are easier to read and follow than Erikson. If you like Song of Fire and Ice, you'll also probably like this, although those books are geared to a wider audience. This series is less medieval society type stories and more mystic than the George R.R. Martin books, but I love both. Anxiously awaiting the next book.
Brian is a powerful up and coming author. The entire series was captivating. The characters were memorable and he did a good job in developing all the interrelationships. I bought the version of the books and I was surprised tha the costs were so low considering the quality of the writing. I would hope that the publishers also recognize his quality so that the financial reward might motivate him to continue writing (beyond the pure art of writing!). Don't even hesitate to purchase the series if you like fantasy set in different world environments. His writing style and story line makes the purchase well worthwhile.
This book could have really developed into two more books, but it's like the author just gave up on it. It just kind of wrapped up a bunch of stuff really quickly. BUZZKILL.
I don't think these last three books should have been written. I'm not upset about the money I spent as I definitely got my money's worth with the first three books which were excellent. I'm just mad at the hours I lost reading about an interesting world and characters I grew to take an interest in devolve into the author's confusion about what to do with it next. He and I should have just moved on to bigger and better things after the first trilogy.
I read the first four books in a row only to realize I was going to have to wait for five and six. Now that they have come out, I finally got around to reading them and they did not disappoint.. until the ending. I want more. I feel like this second trilogy in the Godsland Series ended on a weird note. The ending to this book just didn't feel quite right to me. I am desperately hoping this means there is more to come and that the ending of this trilogy purposely left us with so much new information to get us readers ready for another trilogy in the Godsland Series! Overall the book still gets a 5 out of 5, because even with the slightly off ending, in my opinion, it is still a fantastic read.
I really liked this episode of the Godsland Series. While there was an entirely new storyline introduced, it was well fleshed out and I enjoyed the characters in it. It was fun to read more development of other characters, though I'm hoping Rathbone doesn't continue to give short shrift to female characters who are possible love interests to his leading male character. I don't write reviews with spoilers, so I'll just say that i figured the development at the end of the book had to happen sooner or later, but I liked how it was handled. Rathbone writes better than a lot of the writers in the fantasy genre. I particularly like the clear voices he has for each of his characters and the way he writes detail of each setting in his world without bogging down the plot or character development.
A shift in focus makes this book a definite middle book. Instead of epic clashes of good vs evil, now you have man vs nature. How are the cast going to survive in the harsh environment they find themselves in.
